FRESHER'S DAY On August 10, the first year students were welcomed by the third and second year students. An ice-breaking session was held which was very interesting. Games were conducted to bring out their Talents and skills. STATE SEMINAR ON BIO-INORGANIC CHEMISTRY A three day state seminar on Bio- Inorganic Chemistry was organised by the Department of Chemistry, sponsored by U.G.C.on 22nd , 23rd and 24th of July 2010. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. M.C. Dathan (Director, Sathish Dhawan Space Center, Sri Harikotta, Andhra Pradesh). Bio-Inorganic Chemistry is a leading inter-disciplinary science at the interface of Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Medicine. The latest role for Bio-Inorganic Chemistry is in the linkages betrween inorganic elements and Genomic Information. The thrust areas of the seminar were Metal-Nucleic acid Interactions, Nucleic Acid Therapy, Role of Anions in Biological process, Biocomposites, Biomineralisation, Biocordination Chemistry. Eminent Personalities from in and outside the state were the resource persons. Dr. Annu thomas, Dr. Abraham Joseph, Dr. kuruvilla oseph, Dr. Prakash Chandran, Dr. K. Mohanan and Dr. M.S.Latha were the resource persons. Teachers and students from various colleges around the state particiopated in the seminar. Dr. P.P. Ravindran was the cheif guest for the valedictory meeting. He is the director of the Colege devlopment Council, M.G. University. Paricipants were awarded with the participation certificates. ONAM CELEBRATIONS Onam was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and vigour. The students of Chemistry Department participated in the "Flower Carpet Competition" conducted as part of the Onam Celebration of our College. We secured the first position in the consolation prizes. CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAM. A class on breast cancer awareness was organised by the Chemistry Association in the college Auditorium on 23rd October 2010. Dr. P.V. Ganghadharan, Medical Oncologist, Lakeshore Hospital spoke on the preventive methods of breast cancer, its early detection and treatment. It was followed by an interactive session with the students. KERALA PIRAVI CELEBRATIONS As part of the Kerala Piravi Celebrations in our College our students participated inthe Keralangana and Nostalgia Competitions. Chinnu Babu Neethu of 1st DC were selected to the second round of the competition. INTER -CLASS COMPETITIONS IIIrd DC students conducted a news quiz competition for testing the general knowledge and increasing the reading habit of the students. The Quiz Masters were Indumol.A and Rakhi Mohan. The winners of the quiz competition were the IIIrd D.C's followed by the Ist and II DC's. As part of our Association activities a game was conducted by the II DC students for increasing the memory power. The winners were Ist DC and IInd DC students. The first DC students hosted a game plus a quiz show for the IInd and IIrd DC students. The Winners of this competition were IIIrd DC students. PARTICIPATION IN INTER-COLLEGIATE COMPETITIONS Soosan Mary Abraham and Asha Mariam John of IIIrd DC participated in the Chemistry Quiz Competition hosted by Devamatha Colege, Kuravilangadu. Shibitha Joy of IIIrd DC and Mamta of IInd DC paricipated in the Quiz Competition conducted by the Chemistry Department of Alphonsa College, Pala. Nidhy Mary Rajan of IIIrd DC paricipated in the power point presentation Competition, ' SPARK 2010 ' conducted by the Chemistry Association of Assumption College, Changanacherry. PARTICIPATION IN OTHER COMPETITIONS Julia Susan Jogy of Ist DC. secured the consolation prize for essay competition conucted by Eco Club, and Ist Prize for the news based quiz competition conducted by the English department. PARTICIPATION IN NCC AND NSS Indumol A of IIIrd DC is a cadet of the N.C.C. from our college. She has represented our College in various State and National Camps. Shibitha Baby and Asha Mariam John of IIIrd DC are the two volunteers of N.S.S. from our department. They have took part in a number of camps hosted by the N.S.S. |
