Family & Community Science

The Family and Community Science Department of BCM College was started in 1965.   Complete with a Nutrition lab, Bio-Chemistry lab, Textiles and Fashion designing lab and an Audio-Visual lab, the department is a proud possession of the college. There is also a cottage for residence course. In the year 2005-06, a Post Graduate Degree course in 'Child Development' was started by the department.

Duration:- 3 years (6 semesters)  

Eligibility:-A pass in plus two with science subjects.

Career Options:-

After completing the UG programme

1.        All can go for Post graduation & Research  in   Child development, Nutrition & Dietetics, Textile Science & fashion  designing,  Extension Education & Mass communication, Microbiology, psychology,  Speech therapy,  Rehabilitation therapy etc.

They can work

2.         As   teachers in college, Higher secondary schools, Pre- PrimaryTraining

          Schools,  B.Ed & M.Ed centres.  

3.           As resource room teachers in normal schools to handle   learning disabled .

4.           As teachers in special schools- school for the blind, deaf & mentally retarded.

5.           As   Research   assistants in Child development, Nutrition& Dietetics, Textile Science &
  fashion designing, Extension Education & Mass communication, Microbiology, psychology.

6.           As child psychologists / developmental therapists   in hospitals.

7.            As Councillors in child guidance clinics, schools, colleges & in maternity & paediatric
  wards in hospitals.

8.           As Child Development Project officers(CDPOs) in districts.

9.           As child care experts in   pharmaceuticals, in All India radio, Tv Chanals to do programmes
  for children.

10.       Can work in National &International Organizations like ICDS, NIPCED,NCERT and in centres for mother & child Care.

11.   Can conduct Pre-schools & Montessori schools.

12.   Can make Toys , Books & CDs   for children.

13.   As nutritionists & dieticians in hospitals, Industrial fields &   in Air lines.

14.   As microbiologist, Interior decorators, & fashion designers.

15.   Can do income generating skills like embroidery, catering, tailoring, & flower arrangement.

Students who  like to excel in  any of the above fields  can take up this course.
