Food Science

The Food Science Department

At the dawn of the 21st century we are witnessing the amazing progress that science and technology have achieved on all fronts. Considering the immense possibilities of the food industry and with the idea of equipping the students for a career, a new job oriented course namely Food Science and Quality Control was started during the academic year 1997-98 under the guidance of the then Principal Mrs. Remani Tharayil. This is a UGC sponsored course affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.

The main objectives of the course are:

1.

To train the students to be competent in the production of quality food by imparting better nutritional and sanitation-hygiene concepts and to enable them to be amenable to technological advances.

2.

To encourage the students to be entrepreneurs and set up food industries within the country.

The Food Science Department aims to prepare the students for a career where the options extend to various areas like food industries and research institutions. It aims to uplift the competence of the students and equip them to be working professionals and specialists in the field.
