The Mathematics Association

Mathematics Association was formed in 1959. Till 1986, Association had a secretary from III B.Sc. Maths and one repesentative from each degree class. Association functioned under the leadership of the secretary.

When PG Course came into existence, it  was reorganised and office bearers are elected from the students in a democratic pattern.

Office bearers include President from II M.Sc., Secretary and Treasurer from III D.C. and one representative from each class, and one or two of the Faculty Members act as Staff Advisors of the Association.

Inaugural function of the Mathematic Association is usually done by the faculty members from other Colleges or Universities

Our Association activites started with the inaugral ceremony at 10.00 am in the College Auditorium by Dr.Rosamma Xavier, Head of the Department,B.K College Kottayam on the .She conducted a class,which was very interesting and useful to one and all. We conducted many Cultural progammes.

Intercollegiate Quiz Competition

The Mathematics association started an Intercollegiate Quiz Competition with the aim of giving our students to interact with Intelligensia of other Institutions.

After the demise of Sr. Lucia, Lecturer of Statistics department, the Intercollegiate Quiz competition is renamed as All Kerala Intercollegiate Quiz Competition in Mathematics in memory of Sr. Lucia.

Participants are given a screening test by one of the faculty members to select five teams. The Quiz Masters who conduct the final competitions are, from other colleges or Univesities .

Rules

  • A team consists of two students. Teams Shall be from all colleges affiliated to the universities in Kerala and from the university departments.
  • Participants should carry identity card from the principal or from the head of the department.
  • The decision of the Quiz-Master will be final and binding

First prize: Rs.1000/- and Ever Rolling Trophy

Second prize: Rs.750/- and Ever Rolling Trophy

Third prize: Rs.500/-

Award  are given to the best quiz team for Inter-Class Quiz Competition.

Awards are given to the student who scores highest points in Quiz Competition, Arts and Sports activities. Farewell functions of II M.Sc. & III D.C. are organised.

The activities of the Association conclude after the Valedictory function.

Quiz club and Puzzle club are functioning along with activities of the Association.

All Kerala Inter - Collegiate Quiz Competition

In memory of Sr.Lucia, on 28th of October the B.C.M Mathematics Association conducted the All Kerala Inter- Collegiate quiz competition in Mathemaics. Almost 30 students from different colleges participated. Our students, Miss.Rissana of III D.C and Miss. Gilu Merin Philip of  II  D.C bagged first prize. Dr.  Sunil.C.Mathew, Lecturer Senior Grade, Dept. of Mathematics, of  St. Thomas College, Pala     was our Quiz Master.

QUIZ CLUB/PUZZLE CLUB

For preparing our students for the Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition on General Mathematics, we had organized Quizz/Puzzle club every Tuesday from 1:15 to 2 P.M on the following dates for each batch. The activites of the club was a great success.

Exhibition Cum Sale

An Exhibition cum sale of M.S.D.P products was held in connection with Valedictory function of the Mathematics Association. Some of the items were Ladies Bags, beautifully Painted Clay Flower Pots, Towels with beautiful Paintings, Bangles with beads etc....

  • Personality Devlopment Programme
    Our Students actively participated in the Personality Devlopment Programme conducted by the career cell of B.C.M College.
  • Welcome Ceremony
  • The 14th of July marked the formal Welcoming Ceremony of the 1st Year students by their   Seniors. The Ceremony ended with a dazzling Rock and Roll dancing.
  • Welfare Activities
  • With the aim of social awareness, Students are  required to visit any one of the following places, like, Poor homes, Abhaya Kendra, District Hospital, Vikas Bhavan for mentally retarded children, etc.
  • Maths fest is celebrated 2008
  • We celebrated Maths Fest . We also conducted several competitions such as breaking the baloon, Musical Chair and passing the ball.
    With an air of pride we can say that our association is one of the best associations that functions in our college. Mathematics Association was selected as the 'Best Association' of the year 2003 - 2004.
    In the same year, our association won the over-all championship cup for arts and literary activities.
  • Celeberations 2008
  • We celebrated Onam on . On that day, our students participated actively. A delicious lunch and 'Onam Payasam' were  served following the celebrations.
    Inter Collegiate Activities  
  • Our students,Sherin S George and Jayasree Thomas received First Prize for the Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition held at Alphonsa College, Palai. Meera Saraswathi and Jyasree Thomas got third   prize for Quiz Competition held at Ettumanoorappan College, Ettumanoor.
    Meera Saraswati and Shiney R did a mighty work at the quiz held at Devamatha   College Kuravilangad.They also participated in the Inter  Collegiate Quiz held at ST: Thomas College, Palai. Meera Saraswathi and Sherin S George also participated in the quiz held at K.E.College Mannanam.
    Saritha Varma and Anjitha Rani of IInd M.Sc won the second prize in Remani Tharayil quiz competition conducted by the Chemistry Department.
  • Current Year Efforts
    During the   year 2008 the following are the activities of the mathematics department:

    1. The academic year started on 2nd  June 2008 and the first year B.Sc and first year M.Sc
        joined by August.
    2. During the Onam celebrations of the college the students of the mathematics  actively participated.

    6. A multi-skills development programme started last year follows on to this year with the students  
           participating in various activities like badminton, chess, English speaking classes, stitching,fabric
          painting and so on. The classes are held during the lunch hour on Tuesday and Friday.

  • Magazine Club
  • A Magazine named "Ganitha" will be released by the end of January 2008.
  • Library Commitee
  • Two members from each classs were selected to arrange books in the College Library.
  • Compter Training for all the Students of Mathematics.
  • Each class is given a period of 15 to 20 days, so that they have to use the available computer before 10 a.m and after 4 p.m
  • Extension Activities
  • Our Teachers take Classes for the Students of Economics.
  • Quiz Master in the Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competitions.
