INVITATION Greetings from BCM College !! The college in this academic session has taken up the very pertinent issue of Child Protection as its key area of focus. The concept has its roots in the Field Action Project on ''Prevention and Intervention in Child Sexual Abuse'', initiated by the Department of Social Work in July 2006. The study on Child Abuse (2007), undertaken by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (India) validate the same. In India, the country with the largest child population of 440 million, the study highlights the fact that the children, the most vulnerable section of the society are also the most excluded. Our children are our today and their concerns are to be addressed if as nations we must grow. Keeping these concerns in mind, the college, under the initiative of the Social Work Department, is organizing ''Samanwaya- Coming Together for Child Protection'' a year long response to the very pertinent issue. One of the significant events is the Annual Social Work Students' Meet and the Samanwaya Sandhya-The Cultural Infotainment programme on August 25th 2008. The Annual Social Work Students' Meet is an novel endeavor in reaching out to the schools of Social Work across the nation through various competitive events themed around ''child'' Samanwaya Sandhya is a distinctive endeavor whereby a proactive attempt is being made to reach out to a cross section of the society; comprising of those who can create and be social change agents to effectively communicate the pertinent issue of Child Sexual Abuse using the innovative media of theatre, dance and drama. Apart from various other projects on the same theme, the college is also having a Conference, ''Coming Together for Child Protection- An Insight into Child Sexual Abuse'' on February 6th & 7th, 2009. The aim is to bring together practitioners, educators, students and interested persons, to make the world a safer place for children.
